When seeds are planted, they need the farmer’s devoted care and attention to grow into strong, healthy crops. Farming not only provides us with delicious fresh ingredients but also symbolises growth. Established in 1968, New Life Farm is the only agricultural sheltered workshop in Hong Kong providing training opportunities for people in recovery from mental illness.
Adhering to the philosophy of “fresh from the heart”, New Life Farm produces all kinds of vegetables through organic farming. The farm also has a herb garden that grows thyme, lemongrass, stevia and rosemary. Since 2014, city’super has partnered with New Life Farm to offer customers organic mushrooms, herbs and more, with a focus on well-being of the mind and body.
Over 80% of Hong Kong’s agricultural land has fallen into disuse. This agricultural cooperation has implemented the Yi O agricultural land rehabilitation scheme, staying true to the spirit of “restoring farmlands and learning about life”. It is committed to protecting and using high-quality farmland to grow local, seasonal fresh crops. At the same time, the co-op hopes to help people learn about the connections between food, the land and society through public participation.
The overall area being rehabilitated for agriculture is about 1 million square feet, with the farmland covering 800,000 square feet. At present, about 200,000 square feet of farmland has been restored, producing products such as rice, vegetables, fruit and honey.
The ingredients used for the homemade collection are mainly from Yi O Village. From planting and harvesting to processing and packaging, everything is done locally. Parts of the production are even done by farmers from Yi O Village. Product highlights include 100% locally and naturally grown Yi O Rice, Yi O XO Sauce with Salted Fish and more.
With a philosophy of “growing healthy and tasty produce through local farming”, Hydrogro focuses on using hydroponic farming technologies to grow produce locally. It has set up a greenhouse of about 10,000 square feet in Fanling, where it meticulously cares for the produce it grows by hand.
Our collaboration with Hydrogro began in 2018. Highlighted products include tomatoes, local hydroponic edible flowers, local microgreen growing kits, local hydroponic microgreen pot plants and more.
