DOMAINE BERTRAND MACHARD DE GRAMONT Nuits Saint Georges Aux Allots 21/22 (750mL)

Grape Varietals: 100% Pinot Noir

Region: Nuits Saint Georges, Burgundy, France

Ratings: Vinous 89-91 points

Vinous: "The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Allots comes from just under a hectare of vines bordering Les Chaignots. It has slightly darker fruit on the nose than the Hauts Pruliers; this feels very cohesive. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and quite structured with a strict, slightly grippy finish. It should just round out before bottling."

Axelle Machard de Gramont, the current owner and winemaker of the domaine is the granddaughter of a Dufouleur. Axelle has winemaking in her blood, however when she was 20, she took what became a 15-year hiatus to Paris. Living there made her aware of ecology and also gave her the opportunity to taste organic wines which were just becoming popular in Paris wine bars at the time. She returned to the domaine in 2004 to join her father in the family business. It was due to her that the domaine converted to organic production, and was certified in 2014. Today she runs the domaine and she ferments all her wines using natural yeast. Where new oak is used, it is done so sparingly, and all the wine is unfined and unfiltered with limited amounts of sulfur. Very minimal intervention is the goal.

12–18 months in French oak barrels. The vineyard Located in the Côte de Nuits, the Nuits-Saint-Georges vineyard benefits from calcareous clay soils ideal for Pinot Noir cultivation, resulting in structured and elegant red wines.
