The name ""Colbert"" originates from Jean-Baptiste Colbert, the illustrious 17th-century French Minister of the Navy and Finance. He famously ordered the planting of premium oak in the Forest of Tronçais to build warships for the Royal Navy. Three and a half centuries later, one legendary oak, named ""Morat"", reach its natural end of its lifespan in 2006. It was felled. Bruno Borie, the artistically minded proprietor of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, acquired it at auction for a significant sum. He then used this precious 350-year-old royal oak to craft a massive, 4,500-liter egg-shaped cask. It is within this historically rich oak barrel that Croix de Beaucaillou Cuvée Colbert slowly matures, drawing out the essence of time and nature.
