Founded in Beaune in 1859, Maison Louis Jadot is one of Burgundy’s defining négociant houses. Head winemaker Frédéric Barnier focuses on a low-intervention approach designed to express individual sub-regional terroirs cleanly and accurately across their portfolio.
The grapes are gently pressed and undergo temperature-controlled fermentation. To showcase the iconic precision and mineral purity of Chablis, the wine is aged for approximately 12 to 15 months on fine lees, primarily in stainless steel vats (around 70%) alongside a small proportion of large oak barrels and 500L casks. This judicious oak touch adds subtle roundness and texture without masking the crisp, stony character.
Fourchaume is one of the most prestigious and famous Premier Cru vineyards in Chablis, located on the right bank of the Serein river with optimal south-southwest exposure. The 2023 vintage comes from vines planted on classical Kimmeridgian soils—a rich blend of Jurassic limestone, marl, and fossilized oyster shells. This unique geology bestows the wine with its signature saline drive, tension, and chalky minerality.
The Louis Jadot Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume 2023 displays a pale straw-yellow color with silvery highlights. The nose opens with crisp aromas of green apple, lemon verbena, and white flowers, punctuated by striking hints of wet stone and oyster shell. On the palate, it is pure, energetic, and well-balanced, featuring bright acidity intertwined with a silky, concentration-rich mid-palate. The finish is long, dry, and distinctly mineral.
