Description

SEIKI Kibi Dango Rice Cake (200g) is a traditional Japanese confectionery from Okayama Prefecture, Japan. It is a type of Wagashi (Japanese sweet)—a soft and chewy rice cake made from rice flour.

  • History & Legend: "Kibi Dango" is one of the most famous specialties of Okayama Prefecture. It is closely tied to the famous Japanese folktale Momotaro (Peach Boy)—in the story, the protagonist Momotaro uses these dumplings as "bait" to recruit a dog, a monkey, and a pheasant to join him on his adventure to Onigashima (Demon Island).

  • Name Origin: "Kibi" (黍 / 吉備) can refer to the millet flour used to make the dumplings, and it also refers to the ancient name of the Okayama region—"Kibi no Kuni" (Kibi Province). Today, although many products are made with glutinous rice flour instead of millet, the name "Kibi Dango" and its historical legacy have been preserved.

  • Soft & Chewy Texture: This rice cake is characterized by its soft, chewy texture. It is typically shaped into flat, round small cakes, making them easy to eat in one bite.

  • Classic Flavor: The most classic flavor for this 200g product is being generously coated with Kinako (きなこ)aromatic roasted soybean flour. The soybean flour adds a nutty aroma that perfectly complements the chewy rice cakes, making them an excellent accompaniment to tea.

  • Individual Wrapping: The product typically contains individually wrapped portions inside, making it convenient for sharing, carrying, and storing.
