Yamagata Prefecture, proud of being Japan's leading pear-producing region, selects top-quality pears known as "SUPER LAF."

Referred to as the "Queen of Fruits," these pears, which account for over 80% of the national pear production in Yamagata Prefecture, have their highest production in Tendo City. Through years of research and dedication by producers and those involved in the industry, "SUPER LAF" has emerged.

1. Applying organic matter to the soil is crucial for the cultivation of delicious pears. By adding a large amount of organic material, soil aeration, permeability, and water retention can be improved, enhancing root development and creating soil suitable for growing flavorful pears.

2. Selected Farming Partners
Only farmers meeting specific criteria can become "SUPER LAF" growers. Through annual soil inspections and other evaluations, producers and farms are carefully selected for cultivation.
All fruits from registered farms undergo uniform pre-cooling storage, sorting, and ripening processes. A transmissive light sensor is used to assess sugar content, hardness, and ripeness of the fruits, ensuring that only those meeting the standards can be labeled as "SUPER LAF."

3. Sugar Content of 14 Degrees or Higher, Size of 2L or Larger
To qualify as "SUPER LAF," the pears must be of premium quality, with a size ranging from 2L to 4L and a sugar content of 14 degrees or higher. Only about one-tenth of the entire harvest meets all the criteria to be labeled as "SUPER LAF."
