We’re committed to promoting daily environmental protection habits; taking action to reduce use of single-use plastics; embracing a low-carbon lifestyle; committing to sustainable sourcing; promoting sustainable waste reduction concepts in the community; and building a sustainable and beautiful life for the next generation.
Committed to the research and development of smart hydroponic mobile farms, Hydrogro grows crops through a system that can automatically adjust temperature, luminosity, relative humidity, pH levels, conductivity and nutrient values – saving 25% of farmland comparing with traditional farming. Water can be reused in the system, reducing 90% of irrigation water use. The problems of soil and water loss are eliminated, so nutrients can be effectively supplied to vegetable seedlings. In addition, transportation time is no longer required so the quality of crops can be effectively maintained.
city'super has partnered with Farmacy since 2020. We established Hong Kong’s first hydroponic smart farm inside a supermarket at Times Square store, allowing customers to pick and purchase herbs grown there. Within three months, 5,850 bunches of herbs were sold, saving about 24,000 litres of water and about a tonne of carbon emissions in the process. This is equivalent to 36 truck journeys between Central and the airport.
Putting food safety and health at the forefront while enlivening the artisanal spirit of farmers and driving the concepts of “new agriculture, new technology” with indoor aquaponics and hydroponics, Farm66 has moved traditional farming indoors by creating an ideal growing environment through aquaponics, spectral technology and a fully controlled ecosystem, with the goal of improving food safety and increasing local food self-sufficiency.
Since 2014, we have been working with Farm66 to bring safe and clean produce without chemicals or pesticides to our customers. These include hydroponic basil, local kale and ready-to-eat salad lunch boxes, so everyone can enjoy healthy food with a peace of mind.
Vertical farming is a concept that landed in Hong Kong in 2019. That was when Sustenir, from Singapore, established its first vertical farm in Hong Kong, featuring innovative indoor vertical farming technology that can protect crops against extreme weather. The brand focuses on the cultivation of non-local varieties of agricultural products in an effort to solve the shortage of local produce while reducing competition with local agriculture. It is an initiative that promotes the development and diversity of agriculture.
The brand saves energy and reduces carbon emissions and unnecessary waste by improving the efficiency of its production processes – using 95% less water than conventional farming without fertiliser loss. By providing Hong Kongers with the freshest local vegetables all year round, carbon emissions from imported crops can be reduced by up to 92%.
Since 2016 we have partnered with Oasis, who breed giant groupers with pure-bred Australian fish fry at Hong Kong’s only indoor breeding farm. The farm uses the RAS circulating water system for repeated disinfection and filtration, while the farm’s indoor location means that it is not affected by the weather, red tide or pollutants; it also reduces the chances of disease. Meeting sustainable seafood standards, the farm uses the iki-jime slaughter method to reduce pain and stress for the fish, and to keep the meat fresh and tender, without unpleasant fishiness.
Hong Kong Aquaculture is dedicated to providing the best-quality chilled fresh fish – using the iki-jime slaughter method to reduce pain and stress for the fish, treating the fish with sterilised sea water and then processing them with an ultra-low temperature to they retain their flavour. Since 2022, we have partnered with them to offer a collection of fish products, including sea bass, round bat fish and pompano.
